Online personal training with Mr PT Fitness costs from $50 per week and includes a programme written for you, one weekly check-in, and video form review on your main lifts. Mr PT Fitness is a private home studio at 35 McIntosh Road, Dee Why, run by Matt Reilly, a personal trainer with Cert IV Fitness and 10+ years' experience. Online coaching exists for the clients who travel for work, live past the far end of the Northern Beaches, or want training that keeps running when they are in a hotel in Perth instead of Dee Why.
Who is online personal training actually for?
Online coaching suits people whose calendar, not their motivation, is the problem: frequent travellers, work-away rosters, shift workers, and anyone who lives too far from Dee Why for a weekly drive. The four groups who take it up most often:
- Travel-heavy work: two weeks in Melbourne, one week home, repeat. Studio bookings never survive that pattern
- Outside the Northern Beaches: clients in the Inner West, the Hills, or interstate who found the studio and want the programming without the drive
- Home-gym owners: a garage with a rack and dumbbells, and no plan for what to do in it
- Former studio clients: people who moved suburb or city and wanted to keep the same coach
It is a poor fit if you are brand new to lifting and need hands-on correction under a loaded bar, or if the only thing that gets you training is a booked appointment with someone waiting. Both of those are studio problems. If you are weighing delivery formats generally, the mobile vs studio comparison covers the third option honestly.
What does a week of online coaching look like?
The rhythm is a fixed weekly loop: your programme is already loaded, you train and log it, you send form clips as you go, and you get one written check-in that adjusts next week. In practice:
- Monday: the week's sessions are visible with sets, reps, target loads, and notes on what to prioritise
- Through the week: you train and log every set. Film any lift you are unsure about
- Anytime: questions go in the message thread. Answers usually come back the same day
- Sunday: the check-in. Matt reads your logs, watches the clips, and rewrites the next block
Programmes run in four-week blocks so there is enough time to add load and see it work, and a scheduled point to change direction if something is not moving.

How do I get my programme and log my sessions?
Everything runs through a coaching app on your phone: the week's sessions, video demos of each exercise, a log for your sets and loads, and a direct message thread with Matt. You open the app at the gym, tap through the session, and type the weight and reps you actually hit. Those numbers are what the next block is built from, so logging honestly matters more than logging neatly. If you would rather not use an app, the programme can go out as a PDF with a spreadsheet for logging instead.
How much does online coaching cost on the Northern Beaches?
Online coaching starts at $50 per week, which is less than a single studio session and covers a full week of programming and support. How the three formats compare:
| Format | Price | Coach contact | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Online coaching | From $50 per week | Weekly check-in, message thread, video review | Travel, distance, home gyms |
| 1-on-1 studio | From $55 per session | Full session, hands-on coaching | Technique, accountability, beginners |
| Hybrid | Studio sessions plus online weeks | Both, alternating by week | Home some weeks, away others |
Small group training is from $25 per person and a one-off nutrition plan is from $120. For the full breakdown of what the Northern Beaches market charges and where these rates sit inside it, see what a personal trainer costs in Dee Why, or the current list on the services section.
How do you keep me accountable when you're not in the room?
Accountability online comes from three things: a log that shows whether you trained, a check-in with a real person reading it, and targets specific enough that you can't fudge them. A programme that says "3 sets of squats" is easy to skip. One that says "squat 4 x 6 at 80kg, up 2.5kg from last week" is a number you either hit or you don't, and both of us can see which. Missing a session is fine and normal. Missing three in a row without saying anything gets a message, because the plan needs changing, not more willpower. The clients who stay consistent online are the ones who reply to the check-in, not the ones with the most equipment.
Frequently asked questions
Can I switch between online and in-person?
Yes, and most Northern Beaches clients do. You can run studio sessions in the weeks you are home and online weeks when you travel, without signing up again or losing your programme. Just tell Matt which weeks are which and the plan is rewritten around the equipment you will have.
What if I don't have a gym?
The programme is built around whatever you actually have. Hotel gyms, a garage with dumbbells, a set of bands and a pull-up bar, or bodyweight in a room all work. Send a photo of the space before the block starts and the exercises get chosen from what is in that photo.
How is form checked?
You film your main lift from the side or a 45-degree angle and send the clip. Matt reviews it and replies with two or three cues, usually within a day. Video review catches most technique problems, though heavy barbell lifting is still safer to learn in person at the Dee Why studio first.
