The Free 15-Minute Consult: What Happens, What I'll Ask, and How to Decide if I'm Right For You

The free personal trainer consultation at Mr PT Fitness is a 15-minute conversation, by phone or at the studio, with no training, no cost, and no obligation to book anything afterwards. Mr PT Fitness is a private home studio at 35 McIntosh Road, Dee Why, run by Matt Reilly, a personal trainer with 10+ years' experience. The consult exists so both people can work out whether the training suits before any money changes hands.

What happens in a free personal trainer consultation?

The consult is 15 minutes of talking through what you want, what you have already tried, and what your week actually looks like. Nothing is loaded, nothing is measured, and you do not need gym gear. The shape of it is consistent:

  • First 5 minutes: what you want to change and by when, in your words
  • Middle 5 minutes: training history, injuries, and what has stopped you before
  • Last 5 minutes: which format fits, which times are free, and what it costs

Most consults happen by phone because it is faster to arrange. If you would rather see the space first, book it at the studio and you get a look at the gym before deciding anything.

What will Matt ask me?

The questions are all about fit and safety, not about selling you a package. Expect these six:

  • What do you want to be able to do in three months that you cannot do now?
  • What training have you done before, and what did you like or hate about it?
  • Any injuries, pain, surgeries, or conditions a trainer should know about?
  • How many days a week can you realistically commit to, and at what times?
  • Are you training alone, with a partner, or with a mate?
  • What budget range are you working with?

The injury question matters most. If something needs a physio, GP, or exercise physiologist first, you get told that on the call rather than three sessions in.

What should I ask before signing up?

The consult runs both ways, so bring your own questions and use the full 15 minutes. The ones worth asking any trainer before you commit:

  • What are your qualifications and insurance?
  • What does a session actually cost, and does that change with a package?
  • What is the cancellation policy?
  • Do I get a programme to follow between sessions?
  • What happens if I travel for work?

Pricing gets covered in full during the consult, and the numbers are the same ones published in the Dee Why personal training cost guide. No quote-on-application.

Fifteen minutes, no cost, no pressure

Ask anything before you commit to a session. Book your free consult or call 0422 745 334.

Is the free consult really free?

Yes. There is no cost, no card details, and no requirement to book afterwards. Plenty of consults end with a recommendation to do something else, including training at a gym closer to home or seeing a health professional first. The paid relationship starts only when you book a session, and the price is agreed before that.

How do I know if Mr PT Fitness is the right fit?

The clearest signal is whether you want individual coaching at a fixed weekly time in a private studio, or whether you want anytime access to a big gym floor. Those are two different products, and only one of them is on offer here.

Likely a good fitProbably not the right fit
You want 1-on-1 attention and a programme written for youYou want 24/7 swipe access and no bookings
You can hold a regular weekly slotYour schedule changes week to week with no notice
You are in or near Dee Why, Collaroy, Brookvale, or Curl CurlThe drive to the studio is over 30 minutes each way
You want honest feedback on form and progressYou want a class atmosphere with music and numbers
You are managing an old niggle around trainingYou need clinical rehab, which is physio or EP territory

What happens after the consult?

If it is a fit, you pick a time and book the first session, which is a movement screen plus a full workout rather than a sales meeting. If it is not a fit, the call ends there and nothing follows it. Session formats and package options are laid out in the guide to personal training packages in Dee Why, so you can compare single sessions against ongoing training in your own time.

How do I book the free consult in Dee Why?

Call or text 0422 745 334, or send a message through the contact form, and you will get a time within a day or two. The studio is at 35 McIntosh Road, Dee Why, about 10 minutes from Collaroy and 5 from Brookvale. Full service and format details sit on the services section of the site if you want the background before the call.

Frequently asked questions

Is the consultation actually free?

Yes. The 15-minute consult at Mr PT Fitness costs nothing, needs no card details, and carries no obligation to book. You only pay once you book a real session, which starts from $55 for 1-on-1 training at the Dee Why studio. Nobody is asked to sign anything during the consult.

Do I have to train during the consult?

No. The consult is a conversation, not a workout or a fitness test. There is no weigh-in, no beep test, and no need for gym gear. Movement screening happens in your first paid session instead, where there is enough time to do it properly and give you feedback.

How soon can I start training after the consult?

Most people who book in start within the same week, because times are agreed during the consult itself. Early-morning weekday slots fill first, so those are worth asking about on the call. If nothing suits, Matt will say so rather than push you into a time that will not last.
